Corridor of Time

Corridor at the OCBC Bank building, formerly known as The Strait House, is one of the well-preserved historical buildings in Ipoh. It is such an attractive spot for photographing at night.

Town Hall in the Silent Night

The lonely Town Hall is facing the silent street after night fall. Hard to imagine this is one of the busiest street in town during day time.

Birch Memorial Clock Tower

The clock tower was built to commemorate the first British Resident of Perak State, J.W.W. Birch, who was assassinated in November 1875 in Pasir Salak. It is located next to the Ipoh Town Hall in Old Town. The Victorian-style tower was unveiled in 1909. The four sides of the first level of the tower exhibit statues that represents loyalty, justice, fortitude and patience, the four "Virtues of British Administration". Then, the four sides of the second level of the tower are colorful murals, which show a total of 49 famous professions of different eras. They include scholars, soldiers, astrologers and sculptors.

The Majestic Station Hotel

If you wish to experience the old-time British life style in Ipoh, this is a very nice choice. The Majestic Station Hotel located in the Ipoh Railway Station building was built in 1917 and well-known as “Taj Mahal of Ipoh”. It was designed in the combination of Moorish and Victorian architecture. The Corridor CafĂ© is a time machine that brings you back to early 20th century. The building may not be perfectly maintained but it still displays the luxurious in the past. However, many Ipoh citizens never visited this local heritage before.

Clock Tower at Dataran Bandaraya Ipoh

I like this clock tower at Dataran Bandaraya, right in front of the Ipoh City Council. It differs from the conventional clock tower design with its 3-leg base and smooth body line. The city square used to hold functions in the city & the clock tower has become one of the landmark of Ipoh.

The Green Way

Tambun Road (also known as Jalan Raja Di Hilir) is one of the trunk roads in the city that are covered by trees. It makes driving along this session always feel cool, even in a hot day. I wish this will be implemented commonly in the city.

Old Shop Houses

These are the old shop houses that witnessed the growth of Ipoh since its establishment on 1890's. However, many will be demolished for new development. There is no actions from the Ipoh community and the city authority attempting to preserve these heritage buildings. If possible, we shall allow the future generations to "see" the history rather than read it from books.

City Skyline at Night

Rain stopped in the evening. The night is cool & windy. It is enjoying to view the Ipoh city skyline on top parking floor of the shopping complex. Small plane & helicopter are flying above the city, which believed to be the aviation training at night.

The Old Corridor

The corridor has stood for more than a century, witnessing changes in time, but without much change on itself.

However, to the little cat, it is just another peaceful day for a nap.

Raining Day and Night

It's a long long raining season. The wet day started since afternoon & continues until the night. Dinning in the rain, seeing hawkers hoping for more customers.

Story from the Buildings

Buildings at the Old Town would tell you the history of the city. Driving on one of the oldest street in Ipoh, Jalan Sultan Yusoff (Belfield Street), the HSBC building at left displays the architecture of British colonial age. The Asia Life Building on the right is a typical 1960's design while far ahead is the modern high rise building, Wisma Taiko, that represents the 1990's
