The Little Town Gopeng

Gopeng is a small town located about 20km to the south of Ipoh. Just like Ipoh, it was also established on tin mining industry during the end of 19^th century. Nowadays Gopeng is just a small & peaceful town after the collapse of tin mine industry in year 1986. The Federal trunk road (Federal Route 1) of Peninsula Malaysia is crossing the town center. Old shops are lining up along the two sides, standing silently for a century & facing the change of the world.

A Day in Teluk Intan

Teluk Intan is a major town located at south west of Perak State. It is formerly known as Teluk Anson (Anson Bay). The town is surrounded by the Perak River at 3 sides in a U-shaped curve. The town is famous of its leaning clock tower which was built in year 1885.


After visiting the Leaning Clock Tower, we proceed to a traditional restaurant, Teck Kee, which serves nice food, such as “chee cheong fun”, desert & Chinese cuisine. The shop is located at Jalan Raja, with its 2 ends crossing with Jalan Pasar & Jalan Ah Cheong. The shop’s interior is decorated with classical furniture. Among those I like the old photos of Teluk Intan town very much.

We took some time driving around the town. Before leaving, we follow some small signboards & found the famous Tiger Head brand cookies (Sin Joo Heong confectionery). For sure we have to bring back some of these tasty local snack.


Not far from the shop, we reached the river bank of Perak River. The trip ended after taking some photos of the river. It was heavy rain on our way back, especially when reaching Kampung Gajah.

Start with a Colorful Day

It was raining the night before this sunrise captured. Smoother cloud shape is always seen after rain. The thin layer of cloud reflects the morning sun shine displaying a colorful sky.

Tradition Town in Suzhou

September 2008, my second business trip to Suzhou with colleagues. After completing our task, we took some time visiting a famous tradition town in the Suzhou district. There are very nice scenes & interesting ancient industry, but it has been made too commercialize to attract tourist.

Golden Sunset

Another beautiful sunset today. That is the reason I always like to stay at higher ground just because I can have wider view on the land & sky.

Corridor of Time

Corridor at the OCBC Bank building, formerly known as The Strait House, is one of the well-preserved historical buildings in Ipoh. It is such an attractive spot for photographing at night.

Sunset at Suzhou

It was my first time to China & I stayed in Suzhou. It was a summer evening where I was walking alone in the city experiencing the life of local people. Looking at the sunset, the feeling is so different when away from hometown.

Town Hall in the Silent Night

The lonely Town Hall is facing the silent street after night fall. Hard to imagine this is one of the busiest street in town during day time.

The Year of Ox

Happy Chinese New Year!! This year is the year of ox. I am hoping this will be a better year and wishing everyone’s dream comes true.

Cannon on Malawati Hill

The cannons on fortress at Malawati Hill were guarding the shore of Kuala Selangor. It was built in late 18th Century to defend Selangor from the attack of enemies. The panoramic view on the Straits of Malacca is beautiful & amazing.

Sunset at Car Park

Sunset after work from the company car park. From February onwards, I will not be seeing sunset during working days at this car park anymore.

Birch Memorial Clock Tower

The clock tower was built to commemorate the first British Resident of Perak State, J.W.W. Birch, who was assassinated in November 1875 in Pasir Salak. It is located next to the Ipoh Town Hall in Old Town. The Victorian-style tower was unveiled in 1909. The four sides of the first level of the tower exhibit statues that represents loyalty, justice, fortitude and patience, the four "Virtues of British Administration". Then, the four sides of the second level of the tower are colorful murals, which show a total of 49 famous professions of different eras. They include scholars, soldiers, astrologers and sculptors.

The Majestic Station Hotel

If you wish to experience the old-time British life style in Ipoh, this is a very nice choice. The Majestic Station Hotel located in the Ipoh Railway Station building was built in 1917 and well-known as “Taj Mahal of Ipoh”. It was designed in the combination of Moorish and Victorian architecture. The Corridor Café is a time machine that brings you back to early 20th century. The building may not be perfectly maintained but it still displays the luxurious in the past. However, many Ipoh citizens never visited this local heritage before.
